Lot 994 Crystal and Gold Piece NV - Rochester,Pershing County - c1915 - Mineral Specimens
The piece weights 2.82 troy ounces, or 87 grams. Measures 2" x 1" and is a great example of fine crystal and gold. Named for the town in New York; Rochester became a booming mining town in the early 20th Century. Although people had inhabited the area since the 1860s, it was the discovery of silver in 1912 that drove people to the area. The town soon developed into several parts and boasted a population of over 1,500 and, at one point, a small railway system. Like many, the town soon faded and is now a ghost town.
